BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Thirty-one pulmonary hypertension patients surprised Patricia George, M.D., late Thursday night. She and her Team PHenomenal Hope crewmates pulled into a drug-store parking lot ready to make an exchange to the next set of riders taking the Race Across America, coast-to-coast course. Instead, this UPMC pulmonologist and team founder got the rock-star treatment.

Broccoli Sprout Beverage Helps Clear Body of Air Pollutants

Mom was right (again) and broccoli is good for you, according to researchers from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. People who drank a beverage made with broccoli sprouts dramatically increased their excretion of benzene and other toxins produced by inhaling polluted air, and that could mean lower risks for respiratory diseases including cancer. From California to Arizona with Team PHenomenal Hope

MONUMENT VALLEY, Utah — This has been a long, winding road so far. It started Saturday along the crowded beaches of Oceanside, Calif. Cheered at the start line by dozens of pulmonary hypertension patients hailing from Southern California to Seattle along with the president of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, the four women forming Team PHenomenal Hope — including UPMC pulmonologist Patty George, M.D. — began their uphill climb.

Team PHenomenal Hope Set for ‘Race of Our Lives’

OCEANSIDE, Calif. – “We are Team PHenomenal Hope. . .,” Patty George, M.D., introduced to a crowd of media, fellow Race Across America competitors, an online audience watching the live-streamed news conference and other onlookers with their backs to the Pacific Ocean.

Two years after officially forming this group, Dr. George and fellow Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine colleague Stacie Truszkowski plus teammate Ryanne Palermo addressed a Thursday news conference that signals all of their mileage, effort, awareness-increasing and fund-raising for pulmonary hypertension (PH) is about to launch from this scenic coastline Saturday.
